NCJW Cautiously Hails Ceasefire, Prays for Lasting Peace and Healing
WASHINGTON, DC — Today, a new ceasefire in the two-year war between Hamas and Israel is now in effect and Israeli troops have withdrawn from Gaza under the agreed-upon terms. Soon, after more than two years in Hamas captivity, the remaining people illegally taken hostage by Hamas on October 7, 2023 will be released.
In reaction, Jody Rabhan, executive vice president at National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW) — the nation’s leading Jewish feminist civil rights organization representing 250,000 changemakers from across the United States and Israel — released the following statement:
“Today, we welcome the news of a ceasefire now in effect, leading to the withdrawal of IDF troops from Gaza. This long-awaited moment offers a glimmer of hope after two years of heartbreak and devastation. We pray that all those still held hostage in Hamas captivity will soon be safely reunited with their families, and that the people of Israel and Gaza may finally begin to heal from unimaginable pain, loss, and fear.
“May this ceasefire mark the beginning of a new chapter that ultimately ends the war — one guided by compassion, courage, and a real commitment to peace, dignity, and safety for every human being.”
