Problem Solvers Has A New Home - WVUE Channel 8
For over 16 years, the NCJW Problem Solvers has been advising and helping
the New Orleans community to solve consumer issues. We have enjoyed
our relationship with WDSU, but felt the time had come to move in a new
direction. We are therefore pleased to announce that effective July 21, 2010,
we will be continuing this service under the auspices of
WVUE- Channel 8.

Summer Volunteer Opportunity in
New Orleans Public Schools
ReNEW Charter Schools is looking for volunteers
to
assist at Live Oak and Laurel Elementary schools. Both schools
are located in the Irish Channel neighborhood. Both schools have
been low performing in the past and were previously run by the Recovery
School District. There is a need for volunteers to help get the
buildings ready for the start of school in August. The
outstanding needs are painting the building, tagging library books with
bar codes and reading levels, removing years of staples and
organizing/inventorying supplies that were packed in from the last
school district/school year. They hope to have the building
transformed and inviting by the start of the school year August 2nd.
If
you are interested in this short-term volunteer opportunity please
contact Barbara Schuler at 458-9662 or barbara@renewschools.org.
Be sure to tell Barbara that you represent the National Council of
Jewish Women.

CongratulationsPhyllis Nitzkin
NCJW-Greater New Orleans President, 2010-2012
The weather was stormy but inside the mood was all sunshine as Phyllis was installed as the 51st president of the Greater New Orleans Section on Sunday, May 16, 2010 at the Renaissance Arts Hotel
Special appreciation and recognition to immediate past President, Ina Weber Davis, for her passionate leadership over the last three and a half years.
Many thanks to David Dartnell and his models for the fashion highlights and to Armand St. Martin for his beautiful piano recital.
Hats off to Vivian Cahn and her committee for a successful event and for keeping her calm in the face of the New Orleans storm!
Congratulations to Susan Hess, outgoing Vice President, for her recognition with the President's Award from Ina.

Book Reading & Signing
at National World War II Museum
was held Thursday, May 06, 2010
The book, It Happened in Italy,
tells the story of Elizabeth Bettina’s discovery of a single faded
photo taken in 1940, which led her on a quest that uncovered the
little-known story of how thousands of Jews in Italy were saved during
WWII. This moving story ignites the soul, emphasizing that acts of
kindness and humanity were possible amidst a time of great sadness and
horror. Bettina will be joined by Holocaust survivor Ursula Korn-Selig,
who was hidden in Italy during the war. Together, they will tell how
righteous people throughout the Italian countryside saved over 30,000
Jews.
